Remote Hardware Setup Assistant (No Experience Required) — Contractor

Posted March 5, 2025

About the role

We're hiring a reliable person to help with a straightforward setup task. We'll ship you a small device. Your job is to plug it in, connect it to the internet, and let our team access it remotely. You don't need deep technical experience — we just need someone who can follow instructions carefully and communicate clearly. You will not access customer data; you're only providing physical hosting and basic connectivity so our team can manage the device remotely. Typically 1–2 hours for initial setup, with potential small follow-up tasks if we ship additional devices. Paid per setup or hourly (depending on preference).

Responsibilities

  • Receive a shipped device and confirm it arrived safely
  • Place it on a desk or shelf and plug it into power
  • Connect it to your internet router (usually with an Ethernet cable)
  • Join a short call with our team while we verify remote access
  • If asked, do simple checks like "is it powered on?" or "are the cables seated?"

Requirements

  • You can follow a checklist exactly
  • You respond promptly and communicate clearly
  • You have a stable internet connection and a safe place to keep the device
  • You're comfortable taking a few photos (setup confirmation) and joining a quick video call
  • Nice to have (but not required): experience setting up a router, PC, or smart device; ability to plug in Ethernet cables and identify common ports
